Introduction to Ranganayaka Sagar
Ranganayaka Sagar Reservoir is pride of the state of Telangana.
It is built to enable Godavari water to come closer to the irrigation land and to the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.
Works were on since a few years as a part Kaleswaram project and the water was released in April 2020 into the reservoir.
The reservoir is now a major weekend destination for people from Hyderabad who would want to travel on a short drive away from the concrete jungle and also see a water body.
Built in 2,200 acres of land and a capacity to hold 3 tmcft water flowing in from Kaleswaram project.
Route/ How to Reach
Ranganayaka Saga can be reached easily from Hyderabad at a distance of 100 kms.
You can reach the destination through personal vehicle or public transport to Siddipet and taking a auto to the reservoir.
Please note that being the busiest state highway, you have to be careful on this route.
What to Do?
The reservoir is inaugurated in 2020 and no major attractions are available in the vicinity.
However, you have ample space and also due to the distance from Hyderabad, the place is not very popular yet for tourists from Hyderabad.
The destination is ideal for visiting early in the morning or evenings to view wonderful sunrise and sunsets.
The irrigation department is also coming up with cottages on the island. Yet to be inaugurated for public, this is on hold due to COVID.
